Important for the knowledge of the history of the Russian literary world.  No international shipping; book is too heavy. PANTELEEV L. (real name Eremeev Alexey Ivanovich) (1908, St. Petersburg - 1989, Leningrad), writer. He was born at 140 Fontanka River Embankment (the building has not been preserved) in the family of an officer, who was granted a hereditary title. Panteleev did not receive any systematic education. In 1921 as a juvenile offender he was sent to the Dostoevsky School of Social Individual Education (ShKID; located at the corner of Staro-Petergofsky Avenue and Kurlyandskaya Street), where he got the nickname after the famous Petrograd robber; fixed by the autobiographic story Lenka Panteleev (1939, 1952) it became his literary mask forever. The book The Republic of ShKID (in collaboration with G.G. Belykh, 1927) was warmly welcomed by E.L. Schwarz, M. Gorky, and many other writers, and introduced Panteleev into the literary circle of S.Y. Marshak and turned out to be a success with readers. The annual reissuing of this novel was ceased after the arrest of Belykh and his death in prison (1938). Panteleev, who evaded exile in September 1941, illegally lived in the besieged Leningrad and was saved by a miracle from dying either of starvation or being shot by the authorities. He was evacuated by A. A. Fadeev from Leningrad in July 1942; came to the city in 1944, finally returned to it in 1947 and continued writing. The Siege impressions formed the book In the Besieged City, January of 1944. A master of artistic details and composition, speech and psychological characteristics, Panteleev became a classic of Russian literature for children and the youth. Petrograd-Leningrad was an indispensable thematic constituent of many of his works. At different times he worked in Ezh, Koster and for other journals; he was intimately acquainted with M. Gorky, E. L. Schwarz, S Y. Marshak, K. I. Chukovsky, N. M. Oleynikov, D. Kharms, A. A. Akhmatova, B. S. Zhitkov, M. M. Zoshchenko, N. A. Tyrsa et al.; wrote bright literary memoirs. The bitter confessional story I Believe (published posthumously in Leningrad in 1991) revealed new traits in the portrait of Panteleev. From 1925 for several years he lived at Belykh's at 7 Krasnykh Komandirov Avenue (today Izmailovsky Avenue), later - at 22 Vosstania Street and at 8 Malaya Posadskaya Street (in 1964-89 Bratiev Vasilievykh Street). Buried at Bolsheokhtinskoe Cemetery.
