Cyathea robertsiana is distinguished by its slim trunk and the fleshy green stem apex. It can reach some 7 metres in height in the wild with a spread of 2 metres, although it is frequently smaller in cultivation. The trunk is one of the slimmest of the tree ferns, reaching perhaps some 4 cm and this thin stem gives this fern the appearance of an umbrella. Fronds are delicate with a fine, lacy appearance and it makes an excellent feature plant.
Cyathea robertsiana, commonly known as the Slender Tree Fern is a tropical tree fern that is found naturally on the north east coast of tropical Queensland, Australia between the Herbert and Daintree Rivers and again further south near Mackay on the Eungella River. It grows in clearings and along forest margins at heights ranging from 300 to 1500 metres in moist conditions.
Cyathea robertsiana will grown heavy shade to direct sunlight and makes an excellent indoor or potted specimen. It has only limited frost tolerance, to about 0C.. Easy to propagate from spore with no additional equipment required.
