TERRACOTTA OR RED CLAY FIGURES

Offered for sale is this unusual selection of what I believe to be terracotta or red clay figures.

 

 

I must admit that I have never seen anything like them before and cannot find any more of them anywhere on the internet.

 

 

The majority are signed but the two smallest figures are not. Unfortunately I cannot decipher the signature.

 

 

I really like these figures as I can imagine the craftsman skilfully making them by hand, it must have taken a lot of time and effort to create each one.

 

 

With the exception of the donkey which has a broken ear (glued back on) they all appear to be in very good condition.

 

 

Some do have cracks where the clay has dried out,

 

  but this was done during the manufacturing process.

 

 

The figures on offer are;

 

1.   Lady wearing a cowl with a long jug; 10 inches tall.

 

2.   Lady wearing a scarf with a basket of oranges; 9.5       inches tall.

 

3.   Bearded man with a long flagon; 10.5 inches tall.

 

4.   Bearded man with a round flagon;10.5 inches tall.

 

5.   Man with moustache with melons at his feet; 6.75 inches tall.

 

6.   Donkey with broken ear carrying four bottles; 3      inches tall and 4 inches long.

 

 

I have included lots of photos, please take a close look at these as they form a large part of the description.

 

If anyone has any information about these figures I would like to know and I will amend my listing accordingly.
