This badge is from the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union. 60 countries, including the USA, boycotted the summer Olympics that year...claiming it was because of the Afghanistan fiasco....but Angola, Laos, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Nicaragua, and Mozambique made their first appearence in any Olympics that year. the Soviet Union dominated the events and won 80 gold medals. East Germany came in second with 47. 4 years later, in Los Angeles, all Socialist Republics of the world and their allies boycotted those Olympics...and the entire Olympiad system started to fall apart. a couple years later, Ted Turner produced the Goodwill Games in order to get capitalist and Socialist countries competing athletically again. the pin also features the Spasskaya clock tower.
this pin is 7/8" x 1.5" and is enameled on gold colored metal. it says in Russian "Soviet Athletes at the Olympic Games"
